Part Number: OEM18028221
Manufacturer Part Number: WP4451042

The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to monitor the oven's temperature and automatically cut off power to the heating elements if the temperature exceeds a certain threshold. It acts as a failsafe to prevent excessive heat buildup and potential damage to the oven or surrounding areas.

Causes of a faulty oven thermal fuse can include a power surge, overheating, or electrical component failure. These factors can result in the thermal fuse blowing; interrupting the power supply to the heating elements and preventing further operation of the oven.

Symptoms of a bad oven thermal fuse may include:

  • Oven not heating up at all
  • Error codes or error messages displayed on the oven's control panel
  • Oven appears to be powered off

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

My oven shut off while in use. It is a double oven. There is no heat, no lights, no display for either oven. I have checked to make sure there isn't a breaker flipped off. I asked advice through your online chat and was told that it may be the thermal fuse. They said there may be two of them since it is a double oven. Do I need to replace both fuses? Can you tell me the location of them and perhaps we can test the fuses to make sure they're bad before I order them? Thanks in advance.

Answer

N., With the unit not having any power at all there is one thermal fuse that goes in between the control board and the L1 supply line that may have blown. You will want to check the continuity of the thermal fuse. This is a link type fuse and is located in the vent area of the oven near the terminal block. You can try to access this by disconnecting the power to the unit and removing the control panel and you would need to reach in to disconnect the fuse. Once the fuse is disconnected you would test the continuity of it and if there is no continuity then it would need to be replaced.
