  • Increased energy bills due to poor insulation
  • Frost or condensation forming around the door edges

Walter for Model Number TR22S4W

Fridge door seal located by the lower door hinge is folded over on itself by about an inch. It's like the seal was too long and the fold took up the slack. The corners are slightly pulled but not enough to gain an inch of overlap (requiring 2 inches of material). It't been this way for as long as I can recall, even prior to moving it into the garage 8 years ago. Recently the door has not sealed properly causing a warm box. After cleaning coils and making sure door is tight, temps dropped into normal range (I am able to get the freezer to zero degree). In a warm garage, the unit is no doubt running more than it should. Is this seal issue familiar to you? Is there something I can do to make the door seal improve? I have the unit leveled properly, leaning backwards slightly. I have a picture if this helps. Guessing it wont help much to talk about the current seal. It's obviously not right. How difficult is it to replace the seal? Do you have a video reference? Thanks. Walter.

Answer

Hello Walter. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the door seal WP12550111Q is bad needs to be replaced. You will need to remove all the screws around the inner door panel to do this repair. When installing the new door seal start at the corners and work your way around. You may need to use a hair dryer to form the seal around the door frame. Be careful not to melt the door seal by getting it to hot. Hope this helps.
