Richard Atcheson for Model Number maytag mvwc555dw0 On this washer it has developed a noise during wash cycle that sounds like a whump at the end of each cycle. It's getting louder. A repair guy says it's the gears wearing in the gear case. We checked the splush thingie and it shows NO wear so far. Does his recommendation sound right? Answer Richard, before you replace the gearcase, make some checks along the drive train. Check that there is no play in the pulley, it should be very tight with no wobble. Check the agitator wash plate to make sure it is not slipping. If you need to replace the gearcase, it is part number W11454734 Read More...
