Gregory November 21, 2025 for Model Number MVWX655DW1 Washer does not spin and it sounds like something is slipping. The washplate moves very fast but the tub does not. Would this be the transmission or something else?
1 Answer Hello Gregory, thanks for reaching out to AppliancePartsPros.com On this washer, the gearcase is set to the spin position by default, so if it is only spinning the agitator either the gearcase W11454734 has failed and needs to be replaced or something is engaging the gearcase to be in agitation all the time. You might try unplugging the washer or turning it off at the breaker and spinning the tub by hand. If the tub and agitator spin together when there is no power to the appliance but move separately of each other when the washer is connected to power, then the control board W11116592 is engaging the shift actuator when it shouldn't and will need to be replaced. If the tub and agitator are always moving independently of each other, you'll need to look at the splutch/clutch assembly W10721967 and the shift actuator W11481722, these are located on the bottom of the gearcase under the washer. Remove those 2 components and see if that frees up the gearcase so that the tub and agitator move together. Even if it doesn't you'll want to look at the teeth and splines on the clutch for wear, that could be the stripping noise you are hearing. Read More...

Dave August 22, 2025 for Model Number Kenmore Washer Model 110.22352511 I have a Kenmore top load washer. It makes a clunking noise that repeats several times as it switches from wash/drain cycle to the spin cycle - almost as if something is not catching. It has also started leaking below the washer. I have replaced the clutch, the shift actuator and the drain pump but the clunking noise and leak are still happening. When I did replace those parts, there was a lot of grease on the floor area beneath the washer and the belt drive protection cover and the original clutch were covered with grease as well. After reading through the questions, it appears the transmission is the only thing that could be responsible for both, especially with the presence of grease on everything. Is it possible that something else could be worn out and needs to be replaced? Thanks.
1 Answer Dave, thanks for your question. Based on the information and the list of parts already replaced, the gearcase assembly is likely the next step. W11454734 - W11454734 Read More...
D June 25, 2025 for Model Number WTW5000DW1 My washer has been very noisy during the spin cycle but it has no vibrations. Still works okay. Does anyone know why it’s this loud and what I can do to fix it?
1 Answer D. Thank you for your question. If the noise that the unit is making is a loud grinding noise then it would most likely be an issue with the bearing which would require the gearcase to be replaced. Read More...
H February 11, 2025 for Model Number MVWC565FW0 Machine has been working fine, but I noticed burnt rubber smell. Turned it over to find that the drive belt is in good shape and pulleys move freely by hand, but the cover, drive belt and pulleys are covered in a lot of black grease. Where is this coming from? What parts are needed to repair it. How complicated is the required repair, compared to simply changing the drive belt? Thanks
1 Answer Hello H, thank you for contacting Appliance Parts Pros. This is probably coming from the drive belt, usually from overloading. I would recommend replacing the drive belt [WPW10006384]. Read More...
Gabriel August 01, 2024 for Model Number mvwx655dw1 vibrates & runs allover I did replace shocks , stub kits still shakes hard on spin cycle
1 Answer Hello Gabriel, thank you for contacting APP, This may be an issue with the Inner Basket W10752719 or the Gearcase W11454734. I would remove the inner basket from the unit and roll it across smooth, solid flooring to see if it wobbles as it rolls to determine if the tub may be out of round. If the tub has gone out of round it will need to be replaced. Also, inspect the Tub Ring W10849477 for any damage and replace it if necessary. If the tub ring and inner tub/basket appear to be in good condition I would suspect an issue with the gearcase. Read More...
Rich June 11, 2024 for Model Number MVWC565FW1 Noisy when spinning. Sounds like dry bearings All other cycles are ok. Sounds like bearings in transmission are bad?
1 Answer Hello RIch, thank you for contacting APP, I would recommend checking if there is anything stuck between the Agitator W11550891 and the Inner Tub W10752719, as well as the Inner Tub and Outer Tub W11219115. If there is no debris or obstruction between these, replace the Gearcase W11454734. Read More...
Doug September 28, 2023 for Model Number DTW5000DW1 Whirlpool DTW5000DW1 I had a repair technician out to analyze my issue, no spin. He said that he analyzed it as the transmission. Reading your answers to some questions, it appears for this to be correct, it should have some sort of oil leak. Mine does not. Any other suggestions, I'm a pretty handy DIY'er and prefer to fix it myself since he suggested a new machine would be about the same cost as to repair it.
1 Answer Doug, unfortunately, the model provided is not showing as valid. If the model number could be verified and provided in a new question, it may allow the most accurate information to be presented. However, if the model shows to be WTW5000DW1, the gearcase W11454734 can fail and not leak oil. The failure would be identified through the process of elimination. If the clutch shifter is shifting properly and the motor rotates but the spin basket does not, the drive hub W10528947 would need to be inspected for stripped-out teeth. If the hub is not damaged in any way, the transmission would be the likely cause of failure. Read More...
