Manufacturer Part Number: W10518394

The Dishwasher Heating Element is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is a vital heating component that raises water temperatures sufficiently for sanitizing dishes during hot rinse cycles. Proper heat is essential to drying fully.

Causes of a bad heating element can include scaling or mineral deposition over time that insulates it from conducting heat. Physical damage like burnouts or breaks in coils/wires are also possible.

Symptoms of a faulty element are:

  • Dishes failing to get fully dry at the end of cycles
  • Low wash water temperatures
  • Buzzing, clicking or strange noises from under the dishwasher

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and other Whirlpool-manufactured dishwashers.

Answer

John, a couple of things, Make sure you have a minimum of 120 dgr F. water in thee bottom of the tub on the first fill of a wash cycle. To reset the control board, you will need to run the diagnostic cycle, " SERVICE DIAGNOSTICS CYCLE 1. To start the Service Diagnostics Cycle, press the following keys, in order, in less than 6 seconds, while in standby (OFF): Heated Dry, Normal, Heated Dry, Normal To Rapid advance one interval at a time, press the Start key, noting that unlike Standard cycles, the Diagnostics Cycle automatically resumes after door openings and does not require pressing Start to resume." After the diagnostic cycle completes, run a wash cycle, empty and with no detergent, to reset the sensor and control to factory specs. Thanks and Good Luck.
