Smitty for Model Number KDEF304DSS The dishwasher stopped heating to dry dishes recently. Following others examples I tried to order the heating element for it. The heating element is sold out on your site and many others. I had overlooked "rebooting" (unplugging and plugging the unit back in.) and finally did reboot it. The next cycle the unit heated up OK during the drying cycle. I find it odd that none of the troubleshooting questions/answers don't mention this simple step.
Answer Hello Smitty, the model was likely KDTE304DSS0, on this design, the control board can disable the heater if it detects one of several unrelated problems with the dishwasher. What you were able to do was to reset the control board temporarily, once the control sees the primary problem reoccur it will again disable the heater. This is usually not a heater element problem. The test mode needs to be run to find the primary problem, the test/diagnostics information is on the tech sheet that is located behind/under the front kickplate. Read More...
