The Heating Element is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This element is for heating the water to the required temperature and for the drying cycle, allowing your dishes come out clean and dry. It's positioned at the bottom of the dishwasher tub, where it heats the water and aids in the drying process by evaporating moisture from the dishes.

Causes of a bad heating element include mineral buildup from hard water, which can insulate the element and reduce its efficiency, or electrical issues such as a burnt-out coil.

Symptoms of a bad heating element:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly due to the water not reaching the optimal temperature.
  • The dishwasher not drying dishes effectively
  • The dishwasher taking longer to complete cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Remy, This heater is 785 watts wet and 500 dry which would be a resistance reading of between 8 to 30 ohms.

This another update on this dishwasher rain the diagnostic mode keeps switching between the normal and 1 hour wash cycle options high temp and heated dry divertor motor kept clicking you heard the motor running then dishwasher drained then a few mintues later starting emmiting a burning smell apparently the heating element was on long enough that it got REALLY HOT. used my temp gun it read about 150 degrees F. the element does have some brown corrosion rust on it. checked the wire connectors no sign of arching or damage on either termianls on heating element are also fine.

Shaun, Thanks for the question!!! I would open the door and check the control board and connections for heat and damage. The harness and control are common failures that could lead to a fire hazard in the door (which can spread to the home).

Hi! I have been struggling trying to figure out why my dishwasher isn’t heating the water or drying the dishes. The heating element was purchase from you and replaced about a year and a half ago. It still measures about 13ohms. I thought the high temp thermostat was bad as I thought it measured open when I checked earlier this week. Today when I took it out, it measured 1.6ohms. I’m not sure what else it could be. I don’t know if I have a stuck relay or the control board is bad. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks!

Rohan, the thermostat should measure less than 1 Ohm of resistance if it has proper continuity. The dishwasher can be placed into a diagnostic mode and the heater tested for voltage from the main control to identify if the control will send voltage out. If it does, the control is good.

Hello Smitty, the model was likely KDTE304DSS0, on this design, the control board can disable the heater if it detects one of several unrelated problems with the dishwasher. What you were able to do was to reset the control board temporarily, once the control sees the primary problem reoccur it will again disable the heater. This is usually not a heater element problem. The test mode needs to be run to find the primary problem, the test/diagnostics information is on the tech sheet that is located behind/under the front kickplate.

Hello David, if the dishwater is filling to the correct level, the water is not siphoning out the drain hose, the drain pump works on a pump out, no signs of excess sudsing, the wash motor is working and the spray arms are turning then replace the control board part WPW10380685.
