The Ice Maker is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It automates the ice production within the freezer, providing a steady and reliable supply of ice cubes.

Causes of a bad Ice Maker can include malfunctioning water valves, clogged filter systems, or issues with the thermostat that affect ice production. Additionally, mechanical failures in the ice ejector arms or the heating mechanism that releases the ice can prevent proper functioning.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Maker include:

  • No ice production or very slow ice production
  • Ice cubes that are smaller or larger than normal
  • Ice that tastes odd or smells bad
  • Loud noises during the ice-making process

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Doug for Model Number WRS571CIHZ00

We found, after 1.5 years of ownership the tray for our icemaker had broken off and was resting on top of the bin. We replaced the icemaker and I find that water freezes on the plastic arm which goes down to sense if the icemaker is full and I have to periodically break the ice off the arm. When i take out the bin I find frozen drops both behind the tray and on the arm. I thought possibly I had too much water pressure so restricted the water flow by partially closing the valve, which did not help. I also get clumping of ice in the bin. It seems like the icemaker tray is overfilling or maybe the fill spout is not aimed right. Any suggestions?

Answer

Doug, it is recommended that the gaskets are inspected for any air gaps that could be causing this issue. From there, it would be recommended that the fill tube is inspected for signs of water leaking through (usually beads of ice will accumulate on the fill tube). If there is a sign of leaking, the valve WPW10238100 would need to be replaced. If there is not a sign of water leaking by, then it would be likely that the diverter valve WPW10341320 is not closing properly.
