Manufacturer Part Number: WP8183270

The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly secures the washer door during operation, ensuring it remains closed and the washer operates safely. It also signals the washer to begin the wash cycle when the door is properly latched.

Over time, door latch assemblies can wear out or become damaged due to frequent use, exposure to moisture, or accidental impacts. A faulty latch may prevent the washer from starting or cause it to stop mid-cycle.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or responding
  • The door not locking or unlocking properly
  • Error codes related to door latch issues
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Bought washer from previous owner who said repairman told him he needed a new "control board." He did not know the error code. I plugged in, closed the door (no clothes in washer), powered on, hit start button. The red LED door lock button does not come on and F22 code appears. I have to pull the release cable to open the door. I hold in the "push button" with door open and hit start. Six faint clicks, no red LED, then F22. I pulled the control board and there are no apparent bad caps. Is the door lock part #8183270 next step to try?

Answer

Hello Sam. Possible Causes/Procedure Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door. Door switch/lock unit failure. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Check door switch/lock unit. Check the wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU). If door lock is new, replace the CCU.
