Charles for Model Number roper rax7245kq0

We replaced the motor coupler on our washer, then had problems with a burning smell. A tech came out to look at it and said we needed a new motor. So we ordered one from this site and installed it today. Well, as soon as we started the washer, we noticed a weird smell...not like the burning smell from before, it's definitely different. So I took it back apart and my wife and I both think the smell is coming from the wiring harness on the new motor. Is it normal for this to be smelling like that since it's new, or should we be concerned there may be a problem with the part?

Answer

Charles, A new motor can and will produce an odor, for the first few cycles. It should dissipate and be gone in a day or so, depending on usage. I'm sure you checked the motor wire harness connection for a good tight fit when you replaced the motor and re checked it. Also check and make sure you have at least 108 VAC at the outlet, when the motor starts to run. Thanks and Good Luck
