Susan for Model Number MSD2542veb00

I made a boo-boo. I let those fake ice cubes fall into my ice bin, where they lodged in the crusher blades and we kept pushing it and pushing it (wondering why it wasn't making ice) until I realized what was up and removed the offending cubes. Now, the ice dispenser won't work. When the lever is pressed, you can hear the motor working, but the auger won't turn in the ice bin to feed the cubes to the crusher. I don't see anything visibly wrong with the auger (or agitator, whatever it's called), and it turns when you move it by hand. Just doesn't move when lever is pressed. What could possibly fix this problem? I don't want to buy an expensive part just to discover it is not the source of the issue. Help!

Answer

Susan, If you take out the bin and push the light switch along with pushing the dispenser pad, if the auger motor gets power and sounds like it is trying to move but won't then the auger motor is bad and would need to be replaced.

Answer

Hello Susan, I have no clue what kind of "fake cubes" you are talking about, but I would wager the motor coupling (AP4363997) or the auger motor (AP4568118) shaft is stripped.
