Gary for Model Number KUCS03FTSS

My trash compactor made a loud noise and stopped working. I opened up the bottom and I found the large gear broke in half, also the motor just hums now and does not move. I took a wrench and turned the gear to move compactor up manually so I can open up the draw - it seems to move freely. I’m assuming I need a new motor and gear. Could there be anything else, is there anything else I should check before I order parts. What happened that the large gear broke and the motor just hums now and doesn’t turn. It’s about 10 years old and gets lots of use. Thanks Gary

Answer

Hello Gary, the motor needs to be replaced and the gear is part of a drive gear kit 882699, also there is a repair video for the kit on the part site, as to what may have caused the problem the gear may have just failed from stress or fatigue from use, it is not an uncommon part to replace on compactors, when it failed the motor may have jammed and overheated. Once both parts are replaced the compactor can be checked in use to see if any of the switches also need to be replaced.
