John for Model Number WRF989SDAH00 Hello, I have a whirlpool french door refrigerator with a bottom freezer drawer. The freezer is at its lowest setting but is still to warm. It has gradually become warm over the last year or 2. It currently is at 24 degrees and stopped making ice . Would you suggest changing the freezer thermistor?
Answer Hello, John. If the fresh food compartment is keeping normal temperature, you may have the bad thermistor, the slowly dying evaporator fan motor or the sealed system problem. The thermistor should have resistance: at room temperature (68*) - 6.2 K Ohms and at 32* - 16.3 K Ohms. If the thermistor is good, remove the rear evaporator cover and check the fan . Next - check if the evaporator coil is evenly covered with frost. If the coil is only partially frosted you've got the sealed system problem. It that case you'll need to contact the professional tech to take care of it. Check if the sealed system is still covered under the warranty.Thank you. Read More...
