By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM21644160
Manufacturer Part Number: W11671282

The Auger Motor is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This motor powers the auger in the refrigerator's ice maker unit. The auger rotates during ice-making, ejecting ice from the mold and depositing cubes into the storage bin.

Causes of a bad auger motor can include wear and tear over time from continuous use, or damage from unbalanced ice molds or debris buildup.

Symptoms of a bad auger motor include:

  • Ice maker not producing ice or producing ice inconsistently
  • Ice cubes jammed or frozen together in the storage bin
  • Loud buzzing or grinding noises coming from the ice maker area
  • Inability to eject ice properly into the storage bin

Replacing this OEM Frigidaire auger motor helps ensure consistent, reliable ice production. This replacement part is compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

Brandon for Model Number whirlpool model ed5vhexvb01

Had a hard time getting the ice bin out of the door to clean out. After removing the ice tray...with a lot of difficulty, the shaft seems to be sticking out to far for the bin to fit back in. I made sure the shaft was properly aligned with the gear and it slide in perfectly...up to the screw on top...but the shaft is still pushing the bin up to high for it to lock into place and fit in the door. Also, now when I push light button and the ice lever on the front of the door, the motor turns on but the shaft does not move. Has the plastic piece on the shaft been moved down and it's not fitting in the motor now?

Answer

Brandon, Yes that plastic piece around the shaft has moved and you will just want to take the blunt end of a screwdriver and tap the shaft back down. You do not have to remove anything to do this except the ice bin. You will want it to be just below the round piece that surrounds it and make sure that you only tap it down to where it will sit in the motor and the ice bin will sit flush.
