Jodi for Model Number MHW5500FC0

Receive the E01 F09 error code. Took off all drain hoses and made sure they were clear. Emptied and cleaned out the drain pump filter. Will work for a cycle or two on rapid wash, but will throw the code out again. I watched the cycle and it appears to fill with water and drain fine. Cleared out drains within the rubber ring and the dispenser. It makes a very loud kind of grinding noise when it starts to drain and enter the spin cycle. The rapid wash will work occasionally, but normal will never complete. The white box on the drain pump gets very hot and you can not touch it after one load. Is the drain pump or water level sensor may be bad and it needs to be replaced? The washer is only 3 years old.

Answer

Jodi, based on the information provided there is likely either debris in the drain pump impeller or the windings in the drain pump are failing. The drain pump should be removed and inspected for any debris in between the impeller and the drain pump housing and cleared if there is any. If there is not any debris, then the issue would be with the drain pump itself and the entire drain assembly WPW10605427 would need to be replaced.
