Manufacturer Part Number: 239087

The Rear Dryer Drum Felt Seal with Adhesive is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It forms a protective barrier along the rear opening of the dryer drum, preventing air leaks and absorbing sound-dampening vibrations.

Causes of a bad rear drum felt seal can include degradation of adhesives from heat cycling or poor drum surface bonding from bending stresses over time.

Symptoms of a bad rear dryer drum felt seal include:

  • Reduced drying effectiveness and longer cycle times from air leaks
  • Excessive noise emanating from around the rear drum seal area
  • Flapping or loose seals allow air pathways to form
  • Deterioration of the felt allowing lint and dust collection behind

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Jaime R. for Model Number LG7701XWW0

I have a gas dryer that's heating up initially and at some point stops generating heat. I looked inside the unit and found a thick blanket of lint and all sorts of objects (coins, paper clips, rubber bands etc) scattered about the floor of the unit and the motor and the burnt gas exhaust vent. I looked at the rear seal and it looks in bad shape, but I wonder could it explain how all that lint escaped into the interior of the unit including the random objects? Good thing it was found since some of it was starting to char away.

Answer

Jaime, Yes the worn seals will allow small articles to fall through and accumulate inside the dryer cabinet. You also want to check and make sure the exhaust vent is properly secured to the exhaust pipe on the back of the dryer. Both of these situations can and will recirculate the lint back into the inside of the dryer. You'll need to vacuum all the lint out off the inside of the dryer and any that may be under or around the machines and replace the drum seal. Your heating issue is most likely due to a weak set of gas valve coils 279834. They will operate for the first 10 or 15 minutes, then they fail and won't lift the valve plunger to release the gas for ignition and heat.
