The Rear Dryer Drum Felt Seal with Adhesive is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It forms a protective barrier along the rear opening of the dryer drum, preventing air leaks and absorbing sound-dampening vibrations.

Causes of a bad rear drum felt seal can include degradation of adhesives from heat cycling or poor drum surface bonding from bending stresses over time.

Symptoms of a bad rear dryer drum felt seal include:

  • Reduced drying effectiveness and longer cycle times from air leaks
  • Excessive noise emanating from around the rear drum seal area
  • Flapping or loose seals allow air pathways to form
  • Deterioration of the felt allowing lint and dust collection behind

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

For Whirlpool Rear Drum Felt Seal With Adhesive (Part Number: OEM9280365)

Frank for Model Number LER4634EQ1

I replaced the rear drum seal. How critical is the placement of the seal? There's a bit of a gap. If I could do it again, I'd probably move the seal an additional eighth inch off the drum. As it is, I lined up the interior green stitching with the drum edge. Around most of the drum, there's no gap. However, in the upper right, beside the exhaust vent, there's a built-in depression in the "wall ring" the drum seal spins around and the gap there is noticable. Seems like a design feature to release moisture, not sure. Is the placement of the seal that sensitive? By the way, I've ensured the seal is not folded and is properly seated. Also, the drum in properly installed on the rollers. Thank you.

Frank, You will want to make sure that there is no gap as this can allow items to get wedged in between and then it will also allow heat to escape and cause excess lint in the cabinet of the unit.

I have a gas dryer that's heating up initially and at some point stops generating heat. I looked inside the unit and found a thick blanket of lint and all sorts of objects (coins, paper clips, rubber bands etc) scattered about the floor of the unit and the motor and the burnt gas exhaust vent. I looked at the rear seal and it looks in bad shape, but I wonder could it explain how all that lint escaped into the interior of the unit including the random objects? Good thing it was found since some of it was starting to char away.

Jaime, Yes the worn seals will allow small articles to fall through and accumulate inside the dryer cabinet. You also want to check and make sure the exhaust vent is properly secured to the exhaust pipe on the back of the dryer. Both of these situations can and will recirculate the lint back into the inside of the dryer. You'll need to vacuum all the lint out off the inside of the dryer and any that may be under or around the machines and replace the drum seal. Your heating issue is most likely due to a weak set of gas valve coils 279834. They will operate for the first 10 or 15 minutes, then they fail and won't lift the valve plunger to release the gas for ignition and heat.

Hello George. Reinstall the drum and then check and make sure the seal is seated properly. If so, it is good.

Hello Jerry. You will need to check the rollers 349241T in the dryer, and check the front support bearings 279441. If they are bad they will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Hello Robert! To replace this part, remove the top panel of your dryer and your drum. Remove the old seal and any excess glue that may have transferred to the drum. Glue the new seal on in the place of the old one on the rear bulkhead. Allow the glue to set for about a half hour and replace the drum and the top of the dryer. If you need more assistance with the install, you can go to the repair forum on our website and the techs there can provide additional help. I hope this helps! http://forum.appliancepartspros.com
