By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18030483
Manufacturer Part Number: WP63134

The Sound Dampening Ring is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. Located within the clutch housing, it serves to minimize noise transmission from internal components.

Causes relate to years of absorbing internal impacts fatiguing the damping material. Buildup of grime and detergent residue in its ridges may diminish noise-isolating effectiveness over time.

Symptoms of failure include:

  • Excessive humming or clanking sounds from the transmission area
  • Increased cabinet vibrations felt externally during operation
  • Improper sound insulation leads to a louder overall noise profile

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

Tosh for Model Number LSQ9244EQ0

I have Whirlpool Washing Machine Model No: LSQ9244EQ0. The problem is that when it spins, it makes a lot of noise. Also, while it's spinning, I can tell that it's coming from beneath the washtub *I checked the Motor Coupling. They were still intact. *I replaced the Agitator Coupling. *I don't think that it's the Bearings because there's no noise when I spin it manually. *The Springs are intact. *I'm pretty sure that there's no blockage due to coins or lint. After doing all of those tests and more research, I figured that something must be wrong with the belt. However, I came across another post elsewhere that said that this washing machine doesn't have a belt. So, if it doesn't have a belt, then is there something similar, that could be causing all of that noise? Update: could it be the clutch or a damaged sound dampening ring?

Answer

Tosh, It could be the drive coupling between the motor and gearcase if one or more of the drive tabs get bent or cracked they can make noise. Since the noise is down "under the tub" yes, the clutch and the brake shoes could be making noise, but wouldn't worry about the foam dampening ring. Check the drain pump to make sure there are no obstructions or small articles rubbing against the drain impeller. Lastly, the tub support bearings can make noise after many years of use, we wouldn't think that would be the issue at this point. Thanks,
