The Sound Dampening Ring is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. Located within the clutch housing, it serves to minimize noise transmission from internal components.

Causes relate to years of absorbing internal impacts fatiguing the damping material. Buildup of grime and detergent residue in its ridges may diminish noise-isolating effectiveness over time.

Symptoms of failure include:

  • Excessive humming or clanking sounds from the transmission area
  • Increased cabinet vibrations felt externally during operation
  • Improper sound insulation leads to a louder overall noise profile

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

Tosh for Model Number LSQ9244EQ0

I have Whirlpool Washing Machine Model No: LSQ9244EQ0. The problem is that when it spins, it makes a lot of noise. Also, while it's spinning, I can tell that it's coming from beneath the washtub *I checked the Motor Coupling. They were still intact. *I replaced the Agitator Coupling. *I don't think that it's the Bearings because there's no noise when I spin it manually. *The Springs are intact. *I'm pretty sure that there's no blockage due to coins or lint. After doing all of those tests and more research, I figured that something must be wrong with the belt. However, I came across another post elsewhere that said that this washing machine doesn't have a belt. So, if it doesn't have a belt, then is there something similar, that could be causing all of that noise? Update: could it be the clutch or a damaged sound dampening ring?

Tosh, It could be the drive coupling between the motor and gearcase if one or more of the drive tabs get bent or cracked they can make noise. Since the noise is down "under the tub" yes, the clutch and the brake shoes could be making noise, but wouldn't worry about the foam dampening ring. Check the drain pump to make sure there are no obstructions or small articles rubbing against the drain impeller. Lastly, the tub support bearings can make noise after many years of use, we wouldn't think that would be the issue at this point. Thanks,

Rochelle, you may want to check if the basket will rotate clockwise by hand to see if the basket has seized up. From there, when in a drain/spin selection, you may want to check to see if the motor is receiving 120VAC from the timer by testing the blue wire at the motor. If the motor is not receiving voltage, and the lid switch is verified good and being engaged by the lid, then you will want to replace the timer [WP3953553].

Hello Pat, You will want to check the motor coupling 285753A on the unit. The motor coupling allows the unit to agitate and spin and if broken will do neither.

James for Model Number LSR8244DQ0

Should the sound dampening ring be somewhat taught? Mine doesn't seem show excessive wear as it isn't shiney or frayed. However, it is twisted out of shape and does not sit very taught. In fact it seems very loose so that it will slide up and down freely without much of an effort. Could there be another cause for a loud high speed spin cycle? My machine performs a complete cycle but the high speed spin at the end seems rather loud and I think that I can detect that there is some slight rubbing of the tub. Thanks.

Hello James. If it is a bearing noise, you will need to replace the tub support 280184. If the noise is more of a knocking noise, check and make sure the drive block WP389140 is not bad or broke. Hope this helps.

Hi Audry. If under your washer there is oil on the floor or gear case(transmission) then the gear case shaft seal is bad and you will need to replace the gear case part #389245. If you find the motor is noisy, then the motor part #is [AP2905451}. I hope this helps.Thank you.
