Manufacturer Part Number: W11415987

The Shock Absorber Washer is an OEM replacement part specific to Whirlpool-brand washing machines. It is a hydraulic device that absorbs the vibrations of the outer washer tub. Note: This is only one shock absorber.

Symptoms of worn or cracked shock absorber washers include:

  • Noisy operation as the washer shakes or moves during cycles
  • Physical signs of deterioration
  • Over time, increased stresses can damage connected components

Causes involve many cycles of compression and release and solvents inside the washer degrading natural rubber. Deteriorated washers no longer absorb vibrations properly.

This part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Al, the shock absorbers W11415987 would be suspect by the process of elimination. The spin basket will need to be rotated to identify if it rotates smoothly and wiggled up and down to identify if there is any play in between the spin basket and outer tub. If there is play, and the basket moves up and down reducing the spacing between the outer tub and basket, then the bearings and spider shaft will need to be inspected (part of the outer tub WPW10737541). If the basket stays evenly spaced between the two items, the motor stator W10365754 will need to be tested. With the washer unplugged, the motor would need to be tested from pin 1 to pin 2, pin 2 to pin 3, and pin 1 to pin 3 and the resistances should measure between 8.5 to 14O of resistance. The rotor W10365755 will also need to be inspected for any damage or debris. If these all check good, then the shock absorbers (4 used based on the manufacturer diagram) would be a possible cause.
