By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18018171
Manufacturer Part Number: WP2188542

This dual water valve is an OEM Replacement Part intended for use with Whirlpool refrigerators that feature both a water dispenser and an ice maker. The purpose of this refrigerator water inlet valve is to supply the necessary water to both the ice maker and the water dispenser in a controlled manner. While its appearance may vary from the original part, it maintains identical functionality and is authorized by the manufacturer as a direct replacement.

Causes of a bad valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear over time, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning valve can lead to problems with water flow, affecting both the ice maker and water dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad inlet valve may include:

  • Insufficient ice production or no ice at all
  • Low water pressure or slow water flow from the dispenser
  • Water leakage from the valve area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Joe, To remove the icemaker, on the left hand lower wall of the ice compartment there is a cover. To remove this cover you will use a small blade screwdriver in the small hole on the cover and there is a release. Once released the cover will pull out. With the cover off you will want to disconnect the wire harness under the cover and there is a lever on the on the icemaker that you will release. Once released pull on the icemaker and pull the complete unit out. Based on what you are describing it sounds like the tubing for the icemaker fill has broken and you would need part number W11415785 to replace. In order to replace the tubing you will have to remove the shelves in the refrigerator and remove the cover over the water tank. You will remove the square cover on the top of the unit and pull out the tubing. The tubing is connected to the water valve above the water tank.
