By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM17955348
Manufacturer Part Number: W10820048

The Suspension Rod Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes four suspension rods designed to support the washing machine's tub assembly. By absorbing vibrations and stabilizing the tub during the spin cycle, these rods play a crucial role in reducing noise and preventing the washing machine from moving excessively.

Causes of a bad Suspension Rod Kit can include normal wear and tear, overloading the washing machine, or frequent heavy cycles that put extra strain on the rods.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Rod Kit include:

  • The washing machine is excessively noisy during the spin cycle.
  • The tub seems unbalanced or moves more than usual, even with light loads.
  • The washing machine "walks" or moves from its original position during operation.
  • Unfinished cycles or error codes indicating an unbalanced load.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Rick for Model Number WTW6600SW1

Hello, I am convinced that I need a replacement set of suspension rods for my Whirlpool Cabrio, it is going out of balance and giving the "UL" code when it goes through its spin cycle and it also sounds like someone is hammering on it. I got the top cover removed finally and got the suspension rods taken out and just from looking at them, they appear to be fine. I was wondering if I should be able to compress the springs on the suspension rods with my bare hands or if they should be completely stiff. Thanks

Answer

Rick, The suspension springs can be compressed by hand as long as the rods are straight, and the springs are mounted properly you're machine is OK. You do want to check the ball joints in the top of the cabinet, make re they move freely and there is no excessive wear, check to make sure the washer is level in both directions and the legs are locked in place. You'll need to remove the wash plate and inner tub and check the hub assembly W10820039 if the "teeth" are worn or bent the tub won't engage properly and could also cause a "UL" code and hammering noise. Otherwise the issue would be in the rotary position sensor or stator on the bottom of the tub.
