The Suspension Rod Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes four suspension rods designed to support the washing machine's tub assembly. By absorbing vibrations and stabilizing the tub during the spin cycle, these rods play a crucial role in reducing noise and preventing the washing machine from moving excessively.

Causes of a bad Suspension Rod Kit can include normal wear and tear, overloading the washing machine, or frequent heavy cycles that put extra strain on the rods.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Rod Kit include:

  • The washing machine is excessively noisy during the spin cycle.
  • The tub seems unbalanced or moves more than usual, even with light loads.
  • The washing machine "walks" or moves from its original position during operation.
  • Unfinished cycles or error codes indicating an unbalanced load.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

1 Answer

Stephen, The only thing that would cause the tub to bottom out would be faulty suspension rods or rods that are not installed properly.

Kaycee for Model Number s 82984120

Drum is off balance from improper loading of clothes, and can be manually centered for a cycle. It will start out ok, but at the near-end fill and cycle spin, it will leak out water (from the back bottom of machine) that is filling the drum because the drum is now too far forward to catch all the water and part of the fill water goes outside the drum. Mostly restricted to heavier loads. I suspect it just needs new suspension rods? It is an old machine, but I’d like to keep it going. My teenage son was improperly loading clothes and would cause imbalanced spin cycles and ever since it has this problem sometimes upon filling. Is this a suspension rod issue or something else?

1 Answer

Anthony, Based on the model number provided the suspension rods should be the W11130362 . These are shorter than the ones you used.

Hello Stefanie, it is possible the out of balance problem is caused by weak/worn suspension rods, however first check if the inner tub is off-center, rotate the inner tub and see if it rotates true, if it is wobbling inside the outer tub that would cause this problem and the fix would be a new inner tub,if the tub is not the problem then replace the suspension rods.

Kenneth for Model Number Kenmore 102.20022013

I just replaced the suspension rods(110.20022010) in my Kenmore washer (102.20022013).......after I completed the job I put in a load of laundry and started the machine. On the initial fill up it keeps running.......water overflowing onto the floor........does not seem to sense when to stop filling the tank. I managed to empty the tub. I've unplugged to try and reset. Tried it again.......still filling too much. Do you have any advice on what to check? Thanks......

1 Answer

Kenneth, Check to make sure that the pressure hose did not detach from the tub or from the controls because this will cause the unit to overfill with water.

Brian, Yes, there is a potential for the water to leak out and the best way to get all the water out would be to get a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe and suck the water out through the drain hose. This should empty the water out of the rest of the drum. It may also sound like water in the unit when there is not as the balance ring will have a solution in it.

Doug for Model Number Maytag Bravos XL mvwb880bw0

Hello, My Maytag Bravos XL started giving the UL code on most loads during the last spin cycle, even when the load was unbalanced. A few days later, the washer would fill with water but then nothing would happen. I replaced the rotor position sensor and the washer started to work again, but I am still getting a UL code on most of my loads. The wash tub does seem to move back and forth quite a bit and I've wondered if the suspension rods could be going bad? Any help would be much appreciated.

1 Answer

Doug, You may want to check a couple of other components that could also cause the UL code, first. Check the motor rotor bolt(in the center of the motor cover) make sure it is as tight as possible. Then remove the wash plate and tub to check the basket hub and drive W10820039 for damage and debris, If the drive gear or hub is distorted or blocked, and the tub cannot "drop" down and engage the drive gear properly the control can produce a UL error code.

Diane, According to the parts listing for your model, there would not be the springs that attach from the rods to the tub.
