By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18016494
Manufacturer Part Number: WP12575501

This limit switch monitors a set condition and opens or closes its contacts when that limit is reached. Replacing a failed switch restores proper safety cutoff and consistent operation of the appliance's heating or movement system. What it does:

  • Senses a limit condition at its mounting point (such as temperature or travel/position, depending on model)
  • Changes state at a defined threshold to protect components and wiring
  • Interrupts power to heat or motor circuits, or signals a control to respond
  • Common failure signs: no heat or shuts down early, runs continuously, won't start, or intermittent operation
What's included:
  • 1 limit switch
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing
  • Note wire positions; transfer connectors one at a time or take a photo for reference
  • Reinstall in the original orientation so the actuator or sensing surface contacts the correct area
  • Address root causes (blocked airflow, binding mechanisms, shorted components) to prevent repeat failures

Hi Tom. Look under the freezer top hinge cover at the wire connections. Unplug the connector and examine all pin connections to see if they are burnt or pushed out backwards out of the connector. If you have to bypass the connection, make sure that you use the correct or slightly larger wire size and have tight connections. Use a volt/ohm meter part #@ MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Find the wiring diagram in the controls or the lower grill kick plate. Pop out the freezer door switch and see if the connections there are tight and the switch operates well. The 120 vac will come there on the red wire. This will tell you the wires from the fountain control board part # WP67004258 that sends the voltage to the auger motor part # WP67003226. Does the auger motor work in both directions as needed ? Beside the auger motor itself do you see a black capacitor part # WP65889-4 ? This may be the reason why the auger motor does not work. Be careful since all capacitors store electricity. Handle with gloves. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to momentarily discharge the capacitor terminals a few times to completely discharge it. If your ohm meter does not have a capacitor scale check it by putting the scale on R x 1 . The capacitor will read closed and slowly discharge down to open or infinity. The opposite way it will read open( infinity) too great of a area to measure. Thank You.
