Manufacturer Part Number: WP2188820

The Thermistor is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This temperature-sensitive sensor monitors conditions inside refrigerator and freezer compartments. It provides critical feedback to the electronic control module, regulating cool air temperature in both sections.

Symptoms of a faulty thermistor include:

  • Fluctuating temperatures where sections become too warm or cold
  • Frequent cycling of evaporator fans and cooling components
  • Defrost issues or Er/Ed error codes shown on displays

Causes can involve regular exposure to changing interior environments over many years. Mineral deposits accumulating may lead to sensor surfaces becoming insulated. Physical stress from overloading could potentially crack the thermistor over time as well.

This OEM replacement part is compatible with some Kenmore Elite models too.

Mike Amria for Model Number KSSC48QKS00

Hi: my fridge stopped cooling and the (call service) light and peeping came on immediatley and since then it does not cool at all. I was told the main control board is bad and need to be replaced, so I did but without any results. then I noticed that the evaporator fan motor part # 8201589, and the bi-metal defrost thermostat part # w10225581 is not getting any power through the wires that comes from the main control board, so I checked these wires to see if there is any interruption and found none. Now my question is if the main control board is good and the wires that comes from the main control board to the evaporator fan motor and the bi-metal defrost thermostat have no power even though there is no interruption in these wires, then where is the problem. thank you for looking at my question.

Answer

Mike, If there is power coming out of the main control board for the evaporator fan motor but there is no power at the fan then the issue would be that the wiring between the control and the fan are faulty. If you test on the main control board on the P7 connector from Pin 5 Yellow/red wire to Pin 9 White/violet wire there should be 12 vdc. If there is not 12 vdc at this point then you may have received a bad control board if there is power at this point then check the red to white on the fan motor itself to see if there is 12 vdc. If there is then the fan is bad. If there is no power then there is a wiring issue.
