The Whirlpool High Limit Thermostat is an OEM component for Whirlpool dryers, designed to prevent the dryer from overheating by shutting off the heat when the dryer reaches a certain temperature. This safety mechanism is crucial for preventing fires and maintaining the longevity of your dryer.

Symptoms of a bad High Limit Thermostat include:

  • Clothes taking longer than usual to dry
  • Dryer not producing any heat
  • Overheating of the dryer exterior

These issues may arise due to a malfunctioning thermostat, which can occur from a buildup of lint and debris blocking proper airflow, a faulty heating element that causes the dryer to overheat, or wear and tear over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models, ensuring a wide range of applicability and reliability for maintaining your dryer's performance.

George for Model Number Maytag gas dryer, Model DG412

I have a maytag gas dryer, model DG 412, approximately 35 yrs old. It was not igniting and heating up. The drum and everything else seem to be running ok. I changed the coils (k series ignition coil kit) and the Igniter (flat style Igniter). Now the igniter glows and you hear it humming, then it clicks, but does not start heating and the glow goes out. It cycles again and glows, clicks and goes off again with out starting. What do you think the problem is?? Could it be the high limit thermostat?

Answer

George, Since the igniter is coming on and glowing and then goes off, the coils have been replaced, this would mean the thermostats are working and the issue will be a gas valve that is faulty. The part number for the valve is W10116794 but unfortunately, has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement.
