Jim for Model Number WRS571CIHZ01

I replaced my water inlet valve part number AP6017532. When I was watching the video I noticed the technician removed the white plastic cover off the installed part, however he did not put the water line back onto the valve. Then he put the back on and indicated he was done???? A little confused. Also there's another similiar part right behind the outer one. What is it for? Is one for water and the other ice? If so which is which and if one bad are they both bad.

Answer

Hello Jim, thank you for contacting APP, The video is just showing how to remove and install the Inlet Water Valve, it does not show the incoming source water line being disconnected or connected to the valve. The white piece that the technician took off was a protector cap to prevent anything from damaging the threads on the valve for the inlet source water connection during transit/shipping. The machine compartment cover you see being installed has an opening in it so that the incoming source water line to the unit can be connected to the valve without having to remove the machine compartment cover. The other valve you see behind the 1st is the Dual Valve WPW10341320 which sends water to either the water dispenser or the icemaker depending on which is calling for water. The Inlet Valve shown being replaced in the video is the valve that brings water into the unit. One way to determine if you have an Inlet Valve or a Dual Valve issue is to disconnect the unit from power, remove the Inlet valve and disconnect the water line going from it into the unit, place the valve so that it will put any water coming out of it into a bucket/bowl/other sufficient receptacle, reconnecting the unit to power, and calling for water at the dispenser. If the valve puts water in the receptacle then the Inlet Valve is working properly and you have a dual valve or other issue in the unit preventing the water from getting where it is supposed to. If the valve is humming or buzzing and not letting in water then the valve has failed. If the valve is not humming or buzzing then the windings in the solenoid have failed entirely or there is an issue preventing voltage from getting to it, which would require testing with a multimeter. If you are not getting water out of the inlet valve when calling for water but you can hear the valve humming/buzzing
