Ron for Model Number MDG2500BWW Air path clear. Continuity on hi-temp and flame sensor. With front panel off, igniter glows, gas flows and flame last about 10 seconds. Igniter then fades and flame goes out. Strong gas smell from unit afterward. Have replaced coils and igniter but same result. Is it possible that gas valve is not closing completely?? Suggestions?
Answer Ron, Yes it is possible for the gas valve to have a leak and produce a gas odor. Fortunately, it's not a common occurrence. There could be debris or moisture in the valve body keeping the diaphragms from closing completely, the diaphragms could have developed a pin hole , and several other possibilities. With the power removed and the gas supply line open, you can use a soapy. bubbly solution and check for gas leaks around the solenoids, gas line connector on the valve, and from the burner orifice.
