Guy_Sparky for Model Number MDG4000BWW Maytag Neptune Natural Gas Dryer purchased in 2000. Unit dries clothes but there is frequently a buzzing sound from the gas valve when as it tries and fails to cycle-fire the burner. After a "wait period" it will try again and eventually it will successfully ignite the burner. The igniter heats normally during the events. I'd guess the entire gas valve is suspect but any chance it might just be the coils? Coil kit is a lot less expensive than the entire gas valve but I hate to waste the money on a coil kit if the entire gas valve is going bad. I am an electrical engineer so I can easily test coil resistance if I know what the acceptable coil resistance should be.
Answer Guy_sparky, You can test the coils using a multi-meter. The two prong coil will read 1,000-1,300 ohms, and the three prong coil will read 1,300-1,400 ohms across prongs 1&2, and 500-600 ohms across prongs 1&3. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Tuesday, August 9, 2022
