The Primary Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This valve controls the flow of water into the refrigerator's ice maker and water dispenser.  

Causes of a bad primary water inlet valve can include mineral deposits or debris clogging the valve, electrical issues such as faulty solenoids, and general wear and tear from frequent use.  

Symptoms of a bad primary water inlet valve include:

  • No water dispensing from the refrigerator
  • The ice maker not producing ice
  • Leaks around the valve area
  • Low water pressure from the dispenser

Sally, If your leak is from the valve, where the water supply line from the wall attaches then you need the primary fill valve WP12544002 . Its a relatively easy repair, just remember to shut the water off at the wall before you start. Basic household hand tools are about all you'll need. Basically, move the fridge out away from the wall, disconnect the water supply line from the fill valve(use a container or towel to collect the residual water in the line, unplug the power cord and remove the lower rear access panel on the back of the fridge. Remove the mounting screws holding the valve to the refrigerator frame, Disconnect and install the wires and tubes, one at a time, so you don't loose track, and reverse the procedure and test the operation.
