Alan Flewitt for Model Number Kenmore 106.74949400 The ice maker suddenly quit working. I changed the water inlet valve and it still is not producing ice. The freezer is working perfectly. There is water going to the valve and the ice maker arm is at the 'ON' position. What else should I check?
Answer Hello Alan, First you need to check the actual temperature in the freezer compartment. If it doesn't get below 20°F, the ice maker thermostat will never cycle. If your temperature is below 20°F, remove the white cover from the front of the ice maker and tape the door switch down. Now you need a piece of insulated wire at least 3 inches long. Strip the ends and jump the 120Vac from the "T" terminal to the "H" terminal. The wire will have to be held there for at least 60 seconds or until you hear a quiet little "click" from the ice maker. If the ice maker doesn't cycle, check for voltage to the ice maker. There is a fusible link in the power supply line to the ice maker in the red wire. It is clipped to the ice maker to prevent the mold heater from getting too hot. It must be put back into the clip if removed as without it, it can be a hazard. If it cycles replace the ice maker.
