The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is a crucial component responsible for controlling the flow of water into the washing machine tub during the fill cycles.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • Washing machine not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Leaks or water drips around the valve or water supply connections
  • Improper water temperature mixing, resulting in incorrect wash temperatures
  • Error codes or warning lights related to water supply or fill issues

Causes of a faulty water inlet valve can include sediment buildup or obstructions within the valve, mechanical wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or problems with the solenoid that controls the valve's operation.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore washing machines.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18021768)

1 Answer

lwinn, the inlet valve WP2315576 is designed to operate with water pressure between 40 to 90 PSI. If the water pressure is less than or higher, it can cause the valve to be unable to function correctly. If the water pressure reaching the valve is within this range, the failure would be in the valve.

1 Answer

Bob, if the water filter is newer and there is a water pressure between 40-100 PSI going to the refrigerator, the failure would either be a pinhole in the ice maker tubing or the valve would need to be replaced with the manufacturer recommended valve WPW10420083.

Michael for Model Number Whirlpool Gold GI6SARXXF00

Hello, I have the Whirlpool Gold GI6SARXXF00.I have water going to the dual valve.Just cannot get water passed it. Troubleshooting we done: Thawed out the fridge for 3 days. No ice clogging lines Replaced filter Replaced water inlet solenoid w10498990 Replaced dual water valve w10312696 I feel like the control board (?) is not sending a signal to the dual valve. Is that a possibility? If so which board? Please help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We just moved into this house in Florida and could use water and ice.

1 Answer

Michael, if water is going to the icemaker (and ice will dispense out through the dispenser) but not through the water dispenser, the water dispenser paddle WPW10368730 would need to be tested for continuity while it is being pressed. If there is continuity, it is likely that the main control WPW10285199 is not sending voltage to the valve when the water paddle is pressed. This can be tested at the main control connection P3 from the yellow wire to neutral/ground while the paddle is pressed. If there is not voltage, the control has failed. If there is voltage but the 120VAC does not reach the dual valve (verified by testing the valve directly with the door switch taped down and the paddle pressed in), there would be a wiring failure within the harness that runs through the wall of the unit.

Craig for Model Number WSF26C2EXF01

I have a problem with the water inlet valve (I have 3 valves on this fridge - a set of dual valves for what appear to be for the ice maker and water dispenser - and a third valve on the inlet line). I replaced the water line that was leaking onto the floor from the water dispenser. Now, I cannot get water through the third valve which is the supply valve. I've measured voltage at the water dispensing valve and have 120V. I've measured voltage at the water supply valve and have read anywhere from no volts to up to about 50V. I noticed that the supply valve is rated at 120V. I applied 120V to the valve and it functions. The water supply valve - electrically - is fed off of the water dispensing valve and the ice making valve, and I am making the assumption that there is a set of diodes or triacs before the power is applied to the water inlet valve. Can I replace these parts (the triacs or diodes)

1 Answer

Craig, the water valve wiring W11676780 can be replaced. Based on the information provided, it does sound like there is an issue in the wire.

Abm142 for Model Number WRX988SIBM03

I noticed recently my whirlpool refrigerator stopped dispensing water and then noticed that it wasn’t making ice as well. I checked the primary water inlet valve’s conditions. The valve continuity is fine (250 ohm as measured), but the voltage to the valve is only around 70V, not 120V, when the water dispenser paddle is pressed. The water valve is thus not opened. I also removed the receiving water line from the valve to see if water comes out when the dispenser paddle is pressed – no water comes out. I thus suspected the main control board may be the problem. After I replaced the board, the voltage at valve is still around 70V so the water dispenser is still not working. What can cause this low voltage issue at water valve or what could be at fault? Thanks for your help!

1 Answer

Hello ABM412, the primary /isolation water inlet valve should ohm at about 700 ohms. The voltage (120VAC) is reduced by a diode pack inline to it to 60-70VDC which is sufficient to open the valve, based on the testing you have done, suggest you replace the water valve W10865826.

Jim for Model Number KitchenAid Refrigerator Model # KBFO42FSX

I have a KitchenAid Refrigerator Model # KBFO42FSX which needs a replacement water inlet valve for the ice maker. The OEM part number (I believe) is 2309417. I've checked with AppliancePartsPro and have found that the part is discontinued. Is there a possibility I could try repairing the part itself? Or as simple as the function of the part is, why can't another valve from another model be used? Is there any interchangeability between valves? This is a higher end fridge bought in 2008 and with the exception of no longer making ice it works beautifully. It's hard to accept that if I want to make ice I'm going to need to replace the entire refrigerator that's only 12 years old. What say my friends at APP?

1 Answer

Jim, unfortunately, as the valve 2309417 has been discontinued, we would not be able to recommend an alternative as we would not be able to guarantee one would have the same operating watts and mounting bracket. The solenoid of the valve can not be repaired without replacing the entire valve.

Bruce for Model Number GSF26C4EXY03

My ice maker would not fill with water but water dispensed through the door. I replaced the valves W10238100 and W10258562. When I push the water dispenser the dispenser valve solenoid energizes however the primary valve W10238100 does not. The reason it doesn’t is that it is only receiving around 28volts instead of 120 when the dispenser paddle is pressed. If I connect the lead from the water dispenser to the primary valve it lets the water flow perfectly. Could you please help me troubleshoot why the primary valve is not getting the proper voltage? I have tested the ice maker and it checks fine. The freezer temp is 0 degrees. All of my water lines are clear and I even installed a new water filter. Thank you for your help!

1 Answer

Bruce, If the ice maker has power to it and cycles then it would need to be replaced. It just will not send the correct voltage to the water valve.WPW10251076

Mark, if there is not an overfilled ice mold and the water is not leaking into the ice bin, it is likely that there is a defrost drain clog. This can be corrected by accessing the back panel in the freezer, removing it, and clearing the defrost drain with hot tap water. Once the drain has been cleared, the drain tube kit W10619951 would need to be installed.

Manish for Model Number GI6FDRXXY07

My Ice Maker was not getting any water. The water dispenser was working fine. When I tested the water Inlet valve I did not see continuity in one of the 2 solenoid coils with 200 ohms setting. I ordered a new water Inlet valve from your website and before I replaced it, I tried to test it for the continuity in both coils. One of the coils still does not show continuity. I believe the part I received is defective and I need to reach out to your customer service for replacement.

1 Answer

Hello Manish, There are two solenoids on the water valve because one is for the water dispense and one is for the icemaker. It is very doubtful that you would receive a water inlet valve with the same problem you are having with the water valve on the unit. You should use a straw or something stiff and clean to insert into the fill tube to make sure it is not frozen up.
