Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • The washer not filling or partially filling with water
  • Odd noises coming from the valve area during fill cycles
  • Water continuously running into the washer even when not in use
  • Leaks around or below the valve area

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include mineral buildup restricting water flow, worn internal components allowing unintended water passage, or damage from fluctuations in water pressure over time.

Note: If hose clamps are rusted order 4 of WP285655.

This OEM part is compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Phil for Model Number WTW6400SW3

We have owned this unit since 2008 and it has never allowed cold water to enter the machine. Until recently this was not a problem (actually we were only vaguely aware that there was no temperature control). Now my wife has started buying clothes that are labeled, "wash in cold water'. I checked and confirmed flow through both water supply hoses so the problem lies inside the machine. The questions are: is there something in the electrical system that may not be connected or has malfunctioned? and / or, could the problem be resolved by replacing the control valve? Thanks for your time, Phil

Answer

Hello Phil. If the cold does not ever work, you may have an issue with the valve assembly W10364988 on the unit. However, this model will never just wash in cold water. It is designed to mix hot water into the cycle not matter the setting. It uses a sensor or thermistor on the valve assembly and this controls the temp of the water coming into the unit. The hot water is used to break down the soap and lets the washer clean the clothes better.
