Phyllis for Model Number Maytag ice maker MIM1554ZRS0 Hi! Ice maker started making very thin/very little ice and making a grinding sound. Noticed a bunch of gook in water tube and around the water reservoir. Cleaned it and replaced the water tube. A Repairman came and thinks the valve needs to be replaced. He didn't sound very confident in that remedy. Are you able to offer any advice? Thank you!!
Answer Phyllis, if the water reservoir is filling up properly, the water valve would not be an issue. However, the grinding sound can indicate the possibility of the circulation pump W11566406 not operating properly if it is occurring during the ice making portion of the cycle. Identifying how much water is flowing on the metal plate in the back can indicate what the water pump is doing. There should be an even flow of water across the plate. If there is an even flow of water, the next step would be to ensure that the condenser coils are clean. Clogged condenser coils can cause the evaporator plate to not cool properly which can cause very thing cubes to occur. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Wednesday, July 15, 2020
