The Valve is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool built-in ice makers. Located within the water supply assembly, it controls the flow of water into the ice-making system.

Symptoms of a bad valve include:

  • Slow or incomplete filling during harvest cycles
  • Erratic or no ice production
  • Water leaks around the valve area

Causes of failure can include mineral buildup over time restricting water passages or worn seals no longer regulating pressure as designed.

This Whirlpool part also fits ice systems from Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, and some Kenmore.

For Whirlpool Valve (Part Number: OEM18079182)

Jon for Model Number GI15NDXZS1

Hello. My under counter ice maker is not producing ice. It is cooling properly and will make ice if I manually fill the reservoir with water, however it does not seem that water is making it from the supply line into the ice maker. I disconnected the water supply line and there is excellent water pressure coming into the machine. I am able to run the cleaning cycle and seems the recirculating pump is working as is the drain pump. Would replacing the valve (W10881366) be the fix? I've tried 2 brand new Everydrop filters and neither have resolved the issue. I've also done a hard reset (leaving unplugged for 2 hours) as well as an abbreviated reset (unplug for 5+ minutes and then power on and immediately holding the power and clean buttons). Prior to having this issue, we would commonly have a small puddle of water in front of the ice machine. Thanks!!

Jon, I would definitely check the water valve to see if that would be the issue and if the machine calling for water.

Hello Phyllis, this sounds like something is interfering with the control board operating correctly. Check the plug-in wiring connectors where the recirculation and drain pumps (2 wire ) plug in, there is low water sensor (3 wire) there , disconnect it and check the wiring and terminals for any problems.

Phyllis, if the water reservoir is filling up properly, the water valve would not be an issue. However, the grinding sound can indicate the possibility of the circulation pump W11566406 not operating properly if it is occurring during the ice making portion of the cycle. Identifying how much water is flowing on the metal plate in the back can indicate what the water pump is doing. There should be an even flow of water across the plate. If there is an even flow of water, the next step would be to ensure that the condenser coils are clean. Clogged condenser coils can cause the evaporator plate to not cool properly which can cause very thing cubes to occur.

Peter, Check and make sure the water supply line to the ice maker has plenty of water flow and pressure, flush the water line as best possible, and replace the W10881366 Fill Valve. The part is in stock and available at this time. Thanks,

Chris, With the water flowing at a slower rate then this would most likely be a issue with the water valve on the unit.

Jud for Model Number ZDIS15CSSN

Hello, Have a GE Monogram Undercounter Ice Maker Model ZDIS15CSSN. Had shut off unit for a month while remodeling kitchen. Noticed cutter wire had broken so ordered wire kit and rewired cutter with new kit works fine as it gets hot. Unit is still not making ice now. Thinking of replacing Valve assembly. Units was making groaning noises every so often (before month storage) but then would start working again after running a cleaning cycle. Unit's reservoir fills with water, I can hear refrigeration turn on. Very cold plate and cold air drifts down so seems fine in that area. Does not seem to get water to plate. Read that Valve is the most often replaced part for these units. What are your thoughts? Thanks

1 Answer

Jud, The valve would not have anything to do with the water not going across the ice plate. This would most likely be an issue with the circulation pump WR57X10028.

Hello Karl. Hello Karl. It sounds like a sealed system issue. You will need to check the compressor and see if it is running on the unit. If so, then it requires an HVAC tech to repair the unit.

Vinnie, Yes it could be a faulty fill valve W10408179 the diaphragm or solenoid could be faulty and allowing water to flow through the system. The fill valve would be a good place to start.
