How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP3194023 / 00432490 Lower Door Seal

Ordered upper and lower door seals. After parts arrived, I removed the front door panel and realized that while the seals were old and cracked, there was an additional leak coming from behind the soap dispenser. Ordered the dispenser seal and replaced as well. Tip: lubricate the dispenser deal with liquid dish soap to help installation. Tip: Be careful replacing the lower seal. On my Bosch unit, you must first disconnect the tension springs that assist with closing the door. This required pulling the dishwasher out from the cabinet (after disconnecting the water hose from below) 

Replaced inner and lower door seals in 20 minutes. 

I replaced both the door seal and the lower door seal. The lower seal was a bigger job and I used a number of YouTube videos to walk me through it. It was a pain, but it worked. Had I called the appliance store the following would have happened - After a week they come out and verify, yet it is leaking and they will need to come back in a week or so after ordering parts. Instead I did t myself, got the parts in 2-3 days and saved some money. There are very good resources for finding parts and then instructing one on how to install them, but it could all be improved to help more people, even the less adventurous, to fix things themselves. 

Replaced the door gasket and the lower door seal. The biggest challenge was to build a tool to load the hinges so I didn't have to slide the unit out to relieve the spring tension. 

I figured a new dishwasher was going to run me $1000, and getting my repair guy out to look at my 11 year old bosch would be $89 (then I'd find out repair cost), so $50 of supplies and an attempt seemed like a good bet. If I had been unsuccessful I was planning to buy a new unit (didn't want to spend $400 repairing an 11 year old machine). Worked with my husband. I replaced the drain hose first. That was very simple. Then we tackled the lower door seal. Watched a few different videos. It was actually not that hard. Just be sure to line it up correctly and then attach the rubber to the bottom of the dishwasher after it's installed. (The old one was disgusting and misshapen, no wonder it may have leaded). Finally, the door gasket, which literally takes 2 minutes total. Much more time was spent cleaning the area after we removed the old one (lots of mineral deposits and other gunk). All told, it took me less than 2 hours for these three repairs as a total novice (have never repaired any appliance ever). I'm happy I did and hope I'll get a couple more years from the machine. And I would not be scared to do another repair on it. 

The lower door seal was bad and needed to be replaced. Just to be safe I also replaced the door gasket though that piece seemed to be in good condition. Removing the door to replace the lower seal took some time but it wasn't too difficult. There are videos on YouTube but none were exactly like the Bosch unit I had so some steps didn't apply. For example, one video had you undo the water, electrical, and drain connections. None of this needed to be done in my case. Took about 40 minutes being really slow and careful. 

I replaced the seals myself. The door seal was really easy and self explanatory, just pull and replace. However the tub seal was a little more difficult. Had to pull the machine out from under the counter, take the door apart and off its hinges. I screwed the install up the first time, took it apart again and luckily nailed it the 2nd time. No more leaks! Looking to get to 20 yrs with the machine. (4 more to go) 

I replaced the door latch to fix the problem. While taking apart the dishwasher, without following any direction but my own intuition, I broke a plastic piece on the lower door seal. I was able to find a YouTube that showed me how to replace the lower door seal. I was able to replace the door latch and panel facia by paying careful attention to the steps necessary to remove it. I was able to replace the mounting bracket using common sense. Appliancepartspros.com was easy to work with, even when I had to modify the order. Installed a new door gasket and lower door seal. It took me about an hour.
