How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP3965488 / 241681903 Ice Dispenser Actuator Arm

I checked with Appliance Parts Pros.com and found out that the likely culprit was a broken Ice Dispenser Actuator Arm. I watched a video on the same site and figured I could change that part. I wanted to confirm it was that part so I took the front section apart. The Ice Dispenser Actuator Arm was in fact broken; the little tab that strikes the switch had broken off. While removing that part, when I unscrewed the right side's mounting screw, that section broke off (brittle plastic). I then ordered the Dispenser Module also. (About $70 for both parts.) I ordered them on a Wednesday evening and they arrived on Friday afternoon (That's Service!!) I paid for normal shipping and the did come from within the State, but still~!!! I managed to remove all the parts (including switches, spring, power panel, etc.) from the Dispenser Module, I installed the Ice Dispenser Actuator Arm; both were fairly easy. When I tried to re-mount the completed Module into the space, I found it absolutely impossible to get the short hard inflexible water hose back into the hole it came from. I tried soaking it in hot water to make it more flexible, used a shaved small cork stuck into it with a pin and string attached to "pull it down in place". Nothing worked! I disconnected the two wires to the water switch, folded this crappy hose back onto itself and taped it in that position. I now have great ice dispensing!!! If I want water, I can walk the 5 long steps to the sink. Besides, I put a bypass into the filter holder years ago because our water is snow melt and better than bottled. 

Removed the drip tray i guess, it just slides out. Removed 3 screws holding the panel for the ice dispenser and water dispenser, after removing the screws it has to slide upwards to unlock from the door. Unpluged the panels wiring harness and lifted the water dispenser hose out its place so i could easily remove and replace the ice dispenser actuator arm. From here all thats left to do is remove 2 more screws that keep the actuator arm in place, there is no wrong way to put it back together it only works one direction. Once the new actuator arm was in place i plugged the wiring harness back in, set the panel back into place, screwing it down, then set the water dispenser hose in place and finally the drip tray and was done. Took about 30 minutes (cleaned hard water spots too while it was apart) 

Replaced ice actuator with new unit. This is the second time I've done it, so it was a little easier this time. It has a very small activator piece that should have better designed. I ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros online, and received it 22 hours after placing the order. WOW! The new "how to video" online was helpful in reminding me what to do. It had been 18 months since last replacement. 

Ordered Ice Dispenser Actuator Arm, viewed video and replaced. Had to carefully study and replay video to make sure the door seal flap was depressed prior to and throughout the replacement of the actuator arm. Not sure the video put enough emphasis on this needed step. Would have saved me a few minutes, but overall was thrilled with the step by step video procedure. Also, the re-insertion of the water tube into its place in the reassembly process was personally a challenge for me. Forced me to pull any slack out of the tube as it exited the door before I could get close to re-insertion of the tube. -- as an aside, my ice dispenser was not working since we moved in....3 years ago. So when I tested the ice dispenser function after re-assembly, the ice feed mechanism grabbed what was essentially a 10-pound block of ice that had been created over the years of idleness and tried to rotate it, knocking the freezer door open!. I should have checked the condition of the remaining ice in the container. As a result, I threw out the entire ice-mass and started fresh ice making. 

My husband found the broken part .i called and got the replacement shipped,he installed new part ,and it was fixed! Easy,easy,easy! Thank you appliance part. 

Replaced it with a new one. Easy to repair. The video was very helpful. I couldn't do the repair without it. 

Parts came on time and fit perfectly. Repair went well but took a little longer than expected as all of the components had to be removed from the broken Dispenser Module and installed on the new Module. 

After watching the repair video that you supplied was easy to take apart & find what parts I needed to fix the ice dispenser. Without the video would have been a little more difficult. Thanks, Appliance Parts Pros. Will not shop anywhere else for parts in the future. 

Replaced both broken parts. Also ordered for water hose as original was too short causing it to leak at the dispenser. New hose was longer and was able to get the hose all the way through the dispenser hole.
