How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP3965527 / 241682001 Water Dispenser Lever

After the actuator broke off, there was just enough of a stub left to be able to press against it and dispense water if you held your glass just right. With an upcoming shoulder surgery scheduled, I thought I could live with it until I felt good enough to call a repair man. (I would rather fight with a broken water dispenser than drink the horrible tap water we have.). After my surgery, I remembered AppliancePartPros, from whom I had ordered parts before. I thought it would be a major task to replace the actuator, but after watching a How-To video on their website, I figured I could do it even with a sore shoulder. I ordered the part on Wednesday and paid the extra $3.00 to get it to me by Friday. It actually arrived the very next day! Friday, I watched the repair video again, then practically with one good arm, replaced the actuator. The only problem I had was getting the water hose back into its spout. The hose is short and stiff and difficult to grab through a little opening. After several frustrating minutes, I backed away, said a prayer, and tried again, pressing against the tip of the hose with a small putty knife. Boom! The hose slid into place! The whole job took about 45 minutes. I assume most do-it-yourselfers are pleased as I am whenever they fix something, paying just the cost of the part versus the much higher fee of an appliance repairman.

After a lot of research, we initially changed out the inlet valve. When that didn't fix the issue, we went back to researching, and saw that it could be the freezer door switch. So we replaced that as well. Again this did not solve our issue. Back to researching. I then came across AppliancePartsPros.com! And I found so many other options of what it could be. I started with the water tube and after a bit of a struggle I was finally able to get it in and the water is dispensing again! Thanks, APP for having the guides to help me to repair my fridge. 

Thanks so much! I watched the detailed video and knew I would be able to do the repair work myself. I ordered the parts and along with my I phone watching the video, I completed the repair work in an hour! Saved a bundle doing the work myself! 

Put a new water tube in took all of 3 minutes. The actuator for the water was lots longer. The screws were rusted and really a pain to get out. Had to file a slot in them to use a regular screwdriver to get them out. After I get the cover off the other crews were easy. Pulled what was left of the old actuator out put the new one in and that was it. 30 minutes but I had probems. 

My mom wanted to replace the refrigerator, but new ones are hard to find in 33" and white, what will fit in her condo. I suggested purchasing the part and 2 days later we had the part and less than 30 minutes later she could use her water dispenser. 

Replaced actuator. Removed drink and ice front panel. Removed actuator assembly, Reassembled.

This was a pretty simple fix even though I’m not super handy. A few wire harnesses and some screws and about 15 minutes of time. Not too bad. The part fit perfectly and is working great! I feel like anyone could fix this issue like I did. Thanks! 

Unplugged fridge, removed front panel and replaced the part. It took about 30 minutes with a screwdriver. Might have taken less time, but I decided to clean behind the fridge while it was pulled out.
