How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP2153130 / 5308027429 High Temperature Adhesive

My 2007 Frigidaire Dryer started making scraping noises when running so I googled possible reasons and ended up here. Being a single mom with two boys, I don't have extra money laying around to buy a new dryer so, with some research and watching the videos, I decided to try the repair myself. I replaced the Rear Drum Bearing Kit, the glides, the belt and the blower seal inside the door. It certainly wasn't as easy to fix as the video showed. I had difficulty getting the drum back into place because it wouldn't stay level. There was a drum support piece in the video that wasn't available to be bought so I asked on this site and found out the front panel would keep the drum in place. All in all, with me working full time, it took about a week to fix and clean everything and get the dryer back together. I ran it for the first time today and it's quieter and dries faster than it ever has before. What used to take 90 minutes on high heat to dry a load now takes 60 minutes on medium high. Would I try to repair it again? Probably not as it was very difficult for me. The hardest part was getting the front panel back on. It took both my two sons and myself to manhandle it into place and get it to hang right so we could get the screws to line up. Also, threading the rear drum with new screws was difficult because you need quite a bit of hand strength. I almost gave up many times but in the end persevered and now have a running dryer again. Thank you for the detailed videos on your site. Without them, I would never have attempted this repair and would be out about $1000 now. 

Kenmore Dryer Model 41791042000. Replaced the Front Felt Guide Assembly (5303937139) Lower Front Felt Seal (5303283286) Rear Drum Bearing Kit (5303281153) and Dryer Drum Belt. (134503600) Having performed this same maintenance 5 years ago I was familiar with the process which is fairly straightforward. However, the video for the Front Felt Guide replacement seems to no longer be on the website. Also, the video for the Lower Front Felt Seal is wrong, showing the replacement of some felt seal at the rear of the drum of another dryer model. But don't worry, the video showing replacement of the rear drum bearing kit shows how to disassemble the dryer, and the written directions included with the Front Felt Guide Assembly hold true for the Lower Front Felt Seal as well. Once you have removed the front panel (see Drum Bearing Kit video) pull off the top and bottom felt seals from the panel. Use acetone to clean off all the old adhesive and felt remnants. You need a clean, smooth surface. Apply the provided High Temperature Adhesive to the back of the Front Felt Guide assembly. The overhanging plastic guides face the front of the dryer, not the drum. Center the felt guide assembly, firmly pressing it in place. I used binder clips to secure the felt while the adhesive set. Replacing the lower felt is the same process. If you look closely at the Lower Front Felt seal you will notice that one edge is slightly beveled. This beveled edge should be the outside edge facing the drum. You do not need to purchase additional High-Temperature Adhesive as the tube provided with the Front Felt Guide Assembly is more than adequate to secure both upper and lower felts. Replacing the Rear Drum Bearing Kit and Dryer Drum Belt is exactly like the video. Be patient, take your time and you'll have a quiet dryer that doesn't mark your clothes! 

Replaced the rear drum bearing assembly and the front top felt that the drum rides on and since I has it apart installed a new belt. Simple to do and takes very little time! 

From reading "troubleshooting" sites on the internet, originally thought I'd be replacing the front & rear drum rollers, so I ordered the rollers, and a new belt before I opened up the dryer, taking it out of use. When I opened it up the front rollers were "shot", and the front bulkhead was "totaled". Waited for parts to arrive (within 2 days), and successfully replaced front & rear rollers, bulkhead, drum seal. The on-line videos really helped me ensure I was keeping in the right order. My wife says it runs quieter now than when it was new !! 

Found the high heat thermostat was defective.I made the mistake of just replacing it instead of investing in the other parts while I had the dryer apart unit was 12 yrs old. The new high heat thermostat failed in a few days so I did what my gut instinct told me in the 1st place & replaced the heater, thermistor, blower thermostat an while I had it apart also replaced the drum seals & belt. LIKE NEW NOW ! 

I replaced the parts as shown in the helpful videos on the appliancepartspro.com website. The installation was relatively simple and did not take much time to install the parts. 

To fix the dryer I had to disassemble my Samsung Dryer. Taking off the outer items (top, control panel, door) as well as interior components (front/back bulkheads, hoses, heater element casing). Once done, I had access to the drum support rollers (had to replace all 4), the belt, and the pulley assembly. Once all those parts were replaced with new ones. I removed the felt seal and installed the new felt drum seal. The glue was a bit messy, and the fit was a bit tight but was able to slowly work my way around. I could not have done any of this without the Instructional Videos provided by Appliance Parts Pros. I watched step by step (pausing the video to perform each step) on how to disassemble, replace and reassemble the dryer. The video was clear and well-lit so I could see exactly what he was doing, the voice was clear and easy to understand. All made for a great experience. I have used the videos and parts from Appliance Parts Pros on several occasions, recommend them to friends, and will continue to do so. 

Replaced front felt glide assembly, lower front felt seal and rear drum bearing kit. Replaced dryer drum belt as well. Job was easy following video instructions. Used acetone to remove old high temp adhesive. The tube of adhesive supplied with front felt glide assembly was enough to secure the lower front felt seal as well. The hardest part was using the old screws to make the threads in the new rear drum bearing. 

I did a comprehensive replacement of the drum weight bearing items. These included the rear drum bearing and cup assemblies, the top front felt drum glide, and lower front felt seal. While I had it apart, I also replaced the drive belt. The only difficult thing to do was to get the screws started in the new bearing ball assembly. These are NOT threaded, and take some work. I used a speed handle with a phillips tip to put weight on it while it rested on 2 blocks of wood with the ball between them. Put a knee on it to keep it from turning. Definitely have to make the threads in the plate before assembly. Using the old screws to do this was good advice. 

Put in a new seal.
