How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP6995374 / 243297613 Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly

I had recently spent $300 having a repairman replace the ice maker in my Kenmore/Frigidaire refrigerator. It took him just a few minutes. When it stopped again five months later I decided I would try my hand at replacing the ice maker unit myself. The AppliancePartsPros.com website made locating the correct part simple. They included a repair video. This gave me the confidence and information I needed. It took just a couple of days to receive my order. I pulled up the instructional video from the website and 5 minutes later I was done. Twelve hours later I have a full tray of ice for $100. Thanks, guys. 

After reading several posts on ApplianceBlog.com and watching the associated videos, I felt it was worth a try to replace the ice maker. The posts [Jake] were truly informative and provided me with the basic knowledge to run the diagnostics. Even though the diagnostics appeared good, the ice maker would dump unfrozen water into the hopper after a day of making perfect cubes. The water subsequently froze which immobilized the auger and, if left too long, made pulling the hopper out very difficult. The replacement ice maker arrived within a few days and installing it was a 10-minute job. I initially had a challenge getting the wires to the layout of the way of the ice maker (the new design didn't have tabs to hold the wire) but after a couple of tries the ice maker clicked into place and I then had only to not drop any of the 3 screws left to complete the install. It took a few hours to dump the first tray of cubes and I did check way too often but by the next morning the tray was full. That was a couple of days ago and all still looks good. Replaced the Ice Maker Assembly. 

I suspected the drip was due to a crack in the cube tray. I received a new ice maker assembly in 2 days. There was a small crack that extended to the water level in the tray. I was not sure if a replacement would fix the problem. So far the ice maker is working as it should. Installation was very simple. There was a very good video on youtube for my exact model. 

Replaced the interface, and the ice maker. Refrigerator is now making ice and the interface looks great. 

Replaced the part identified as “ice maker” 

I ordered the part, received it, took the old one out and popped the new one in. I am an novice at this type of repair and it only took 10-15 minutes. 

Ice cubes would freeze together in bin because ice cube maker was cracked. Was able to replace that part and it now works. However, when I ordered the ice maker and paid a little more for shipping so I could fix it faster, I received an ignition switch for a GE oven range instead of the ice maker I needed. This company did send the part out immediately. All is good. 

Replaced the ice maker's waterline. 

The ice maker I bought worked great. Had to modify where the wiring harness routed, but works like a champ. Took about 15 minutes.
