Advised by an electrician to gain access to defrost timer and turn the knob to see if the freezer would come on and it did. Per Appliance Parts Pros I also replaced the defrost thermostat. This freezer is 18 yrs old. I took the original timer apart and discovered it's an intricate device consisting of several gears that turns a plastic shaft on which three copper strips are riding. A notch on the shaft allows these strips to snap open & close to turn the heater on & off. After 18 yrs of constant turning the shaft had become pitted, scratched, worn, and rough. My advice if your freezer is 14 yrs and older I would replace the timer.
