How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP6799886 / 5304518034 Defrost Timer

My problem was that I moved the unit from an outside location to inside the house. I noticed the room was abnormally warm and didn't notice the unit shutting off. It wasn't defrosting either. I knew it had to be a simple fix. I read some comments to help diagnose my problem. Replace the timer and it is good to go! 2 screws and a wired connector. $45 counting shipping is a great price. Part arrived in 3 days. 

Advised by an electrician to gain access to defrost timer and turn the knob to see if the freezer would come on and it did. Per Appliance Parts Pros I also replaced the defrost thermostat. This freezer is 18 yrs old. I took the original timer apart and discovered it's an intricate device consisting of several gears that turns a plastic shaft on which three copper strips are riding. A notch on the shaft allows these strips to snap open & close to turn the heater on & off. After 18 yrs of constant turning the shaft had become pitted, scratched, worn, and rough.My advice if your freezer is 14 yrs and older I would replace the timer.

I have a Frigidaire model FFFH17F2QWA. The door was left open for more than a day when we had a heat wave and we lost all food inside. After disconnecting the power for 24 hours and cleaning out the inside, I restarted it with thermostat set at 5. It would not get cold enough to freeze food. After looking at your website, I purchased a defrost timer and installed it. The freezer now freezes food but seems to run continuously. Otherwise it seems to work fine. 

Our neighbor and close friend is a HVAC tech and diagnosed the problem. Therefore I ordered the defrost timer and received it in less than 2 days. Easy to replace and the freezer is working great again.The biggest problem was finding room for all of the food storage while the freezer was down. 

Defrost timer was bad 45 minutes and 36 bucks vs a new freezer at 250 no brainer thanks guys 

I unplugged the freezer. The defrost timer was in the back, down below on the left. There were 2 Phillip head screws that held the defrost timer to the freezer. Then unhooked the wire harness from the old defrost timer. I put the wire harness to the new defrost timer. The new defrost timer was easier to put back because it’s all plastic and it was its own bracket. The old defrost timer had a metal bracket so that the defrost timer could be taken off the bracket with 2 Philip head screws that screwed to the defrost timer itself. The new defrost timer was all in one and all you had to do was screw the defrost timer to the frame of the freezer where the old bracket was. It was very easy. 

Ordered and replaced thermostat, defrost heater element and defrost timer. parts arrived in about 3 day’s. Fast shipping easy to find and order parts. Good video 

Unscrew two screws, remove the timer from the freezer. Remove the socket from the timer. Plugin the socket in the new timer, place the new timer where the old one was and screw in two screws to hold the timer in place. 

Found that defrost timer stopped running. After replaceing it the freezer worked fine.
