How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2024072 / WB24T10025 Range Infinite Switch 8 Inch

The 8" burner that my wife uses constantly finally gave out after 9 yrs of use.. the switch shorted out due to the terminal on the burner going out... I purchased the infinity switch for the 8"burner along with the wiring that connects to the burner... replaced switch and wiring resolving the issue... my wife initially wanted to replace the stove, but since I was able to fix the light and replace the wiring to the burner, I saved myself over 600.00 

First Turning off the power to the stove, with an electrical tester, making sure the power was totally off, retest for electricity very important to turn the power off. Removing the cover in the back of the stove first unscrewing the 1/4 inch screws with a screw driver carefully pulling each wire away from the old switch with nose pliers. At the same time replacing each wire to the new switch. It took me only under 10 minutes to replace the switches. 

Replaced two 

After reading comments on Appliance Parts it sounding like the problem was in the switch. Watched the video concerning replacement and ordered and replaced the 8" burners infinite switch (part#AP2024072). My stove is a slid-in so access to the switch was from the front panel instead of the back as shown in the video. (Just took a little longer to find all the screws to remove the front panel, LOL!) 

Replaced one large burner and switch 

I installed the 8" Infinite Switch. Watching the video, I knew that was the problem. Total repair time, including cleaning behind the stove, was 30 minutes. 

The stove is a slidein type commonly used in kitchen islands or peninsula. It was a little tricky getting access to change out the control.The main issue was that the access required removal of 2 screws with star head patterns.After that, it was fairly simple. 

After disconnecting the black wire from the infinite switches one at a time to troubleshoot problem to a specific infinite switch, I made a simple drawing showing where each colored wire connected to the 5 contacts. I nearly made a mistake because I didn't notice there were two blue wires and didn't label them separately. Fortunately, they aligned closely to where they disconnected from and all turned out well. 

Part arrived fast, in 15 minutes I had it replaced and checked out. Watching video ahead of time made it really simple to do. No guess work. Thanks
