How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3968432 / WH01X10302 Drive Belt

Put on new belt & replaced all 4 damping straps. 

I watched the video for tips and went ahead and replacedthe mode shifter. While I was in it I replaced the belt and the drum nut. The repair went well. About three hours of work. Should have been quicker but I forgot a piece and had to disassemble the machine again. LOL 

The mode shifter and shaft assembly bearings went bad and there was a lot of residue beneath the motor assembly from the drive belt. Replaced the shaft assembly, drive belt, tub seal and tub bearing washer. If you're going this far with the repair, I recommend replacing the split washer and tub nut as well. You may want to consider buying the available wrench for removing the tub nut. It's expensive but makes the job of removing the nut a lot easier. The videos really help to make this repair easy. 

I ordered a new motor and belt. Replaced both parts. It works like brand new! Appliance part pro delivered the part in two days! The entire experience was outstanding! Would definitely use them again! 

Went to replace tub bearing and seal. When I found that the Mode Shifter had a broken part. I ordered needed parts and followed your video procedures. Everything went well and washer is operating like new. 

My washer was making a clicking noise and throwing water while washing. After further examination the motor circuit board was flashing four which the manual says is a failure of the mode coil. I measured the coil and it showed open circuit. Since the washer was older than 17 years, I ordered parts that may have been worn-out. 1. Mode Shifter & Shaft Assembly, 2. Tub Bearing, 3. Tub Bearing Washer, 4. Drive Belt, 5. Spanner Wrench. The parts I found needed replaced were the Mode Shifter & Shaft Assembly, Tub Bearing. I went and replaced everything Since I had the washer tore down. Things you absolutely need if the washer has a lot of age are the Spanner Wrench and the Tub Nut (I didn't order the nut but wished I had). Follow the videos and you should be okay, although it took me about 6 hrs to complete the repair due to getting the tub nut off, I would have NOT gotten it off without the Spanner Wrench. Now my washer works as it should. 

Using your replacement belt and installation tool, I removed the old belt and replaced it with a new one in about 20 minutes total. Some of the time involved finding my leather gloves to protect my hands from rough surfaces in the undersides of the washer. I followed your video, except that I couldn't find any cable ties, so instead I used a single, small, maybe 8-inch long by 1/2-inch wide Velcro strip to hold the new belt in place while getting it started onto the drive wheel. Getting it started definitely required two hands and a lot of rocking back & forth, but a few good turns and it popped right on. Unwound the Velcro strip & Home Free! 

The teeth at the bottom or the mode shifter were not engaging the pulley and causing the noise as the teeth 'slipped' past the pulley causing the noise and reduced spinning of the drum. Replaced the mode shifter, pulley and the drive belt while I was there. I totally expected the pulley to be all chewed up as well but it was not, and the belt was in perfect shape but since I had bought it and had it, it is too much work to have to go back and do it again at a future date so I changed it anyway. I also changed the pulley for the same reason although I am sure I would have had no issues using the old one. The mode shifter on the other hand was totally gone and needed replacing. Repair was easier/faster than the Youtube video show; except fo the tub nut, that was difficult. I used a large 1 11/16 socket and a long extension bar to get the ratchet up out of the drum for more leverage. Even that was not enough. I had to use a pneumatic impact gun on it and that worked. I also just lifted the drum assembly out of the top of the unit rather than through the front. New parts went in easily and washer works like new again. Be sure to 'reset' the motor by plugging in the washer and then within 30 seconds, open and close the lid 6 times within 12 seconds. Took about 3 hrs total. BIG SHOUT OUT to AppliancePros.com. Followed on line directions. It took me all of 15 min, to complete the repair. 

Replaced the belt like it showed in the repair video. Not quite as easy as the video made it look but not too bad. Awkward stretching the new belt over the drum pulley.
