How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2616850 / WD26X10013 Complete Ge Pump And Motor Assembly

The leak seemed to come from the bottom-most point where the pump attaches to the motor, seemingly from the screw hole itself. Poured water into the dishwasher and spent over an hour trying to determine exactly where the leak was, and that is all I could determine. I decided to just replace the whole pump/motor assembly. It takes much longer to get the plumbing and electrical unhooked and the dishwasher pulled out (and then put back in and everything reconnected) than the pump replacement. Per the vid on how to replacement, the old one comes off in a few mins and the new one goes back on just as quickly. For my model (GSD680X-71WW) I had to use the new bracket since the old one did not fit the new motor/pump. I also had to use one of the wiring adapters and the drain hose adapter. The diagrams in the instructions did not really help me, as it was just 6 or 8 different diagrams with no explanation on which you may need, but just looking at the parts it was easy enough to figure out. The new motor is a bit quieter and everything works great now.

I replaced the motor/pump assembly which was made by GE. However, the new motor had a very noisy bearing or pump seal. Appliance Parts Pros immediately sent out another one which was perfect. I replaced both motors without removing the unit from under the counter. The work was accomplished while laying on the floor using a small flashlight. Not exactly fun but, not bad either. 

Ordered a new part replaced and done. Very easy, Very fast. Part came in one day

Replaced the pump/recirculation motor assembly. 

I had a small leak from a seal around the solenoid shaft. I could have fixed only this but because the model is old (30 years) I would expect other components to fail eventually too. Being this old I should probably replace it but GE decided to stop making this ‘space saver under-sink’ model. So a million people throughout the US and beyond will have to remove their sinks and remodel their kitchen if they want a new appliance - to accommodate the normal box shape of regular dishwashers. It is now impossible to find and replace this model. So the only alternative is repair. That being the case I decided to replace all the under chassis components and so although my chassis and tub are old the motor, pump, solenoid and sump are now replaced as new. Effectively my irreplaceable machine is now refurbished and should last another thirty years! Parts were easily identifiable in diagrams at AppliancePartsPros.com, videos were very reassuring as to how straightforward the job was, and the ordered parts arrived within two days! Of course it took me a few hours ‘cause I’m new to this and proceeded very slowly with caution but I learnt a lot, saved on labor and got a great sense of accomplishment.
