I used a thin, screwdriver to disconnect the plastic clip that was holding the timer knob on the timer. After taking off the knob, I saw that the pawls behind the knob were all broken and so could not catch the pawls on the timer. When I bought a new one, I put the plastic clip partially on the back of the knob where it goes. Then, I placed the knob on the timer. Then, I used a thin screwdriver to push the plastic clip on fully.
