How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5806667 / WE01X20378 Control Knob

Replace switch and knob with new parts. 

Ordered new dial and timer just in case. Removed screws at back of upper plastic, tilted forward and slid right to remove front plastic unit. I then removed individual wires from old timer and placed on new timer. When completed, I pushed down plastic tab and rotated old timer counter clockwise to remove. I then inserted new timer and rotated clockwise. I then reinstalled front plastic piece, and pushed on new dial. New timer does not go OFF on the 9 o’clock position, like the old one did and as indicated, but it works great at all other regions of the unit. 

Installed a new timer. Really simple to do 

Replaced switch and control knob. 

Replaced knob. 

My wife screamed for the "dryer repair guy" but I figured I could do it! The original part was older and had a different part number but I was able to figure it out. Good prices here and everything looked and fit right. Easy install/ swap. Works like new. Saved time and money. Will shop here again, no doubt. 

Took the old knob off put on the new knob. I did notice the new knob had reinforcement on the shaft, which should help prevent cracking in the future. Saved my dryer with a one minute repair. 

Removed old one. Installed new one. 

Control panel (back asy) Perfect. just what I needed. 

Ordered a new backsplash and one new start control knob. The repair is straight forward, disconnect power, unscrew three Phillips screws that secure backsplash, remove switches from backsplash by pushing (any remaining tabs) and twisting counter clockwise. Note that the new control knobs are of better design and have a metal ring around the plastic that fits over the switch shaft. This is where they fail by splitting and not turning the switch correctly. The new band however is just slightly larger than the factory hole in the backsplash for the switch. This required enlarging the hole slightly with a 1/2 inch drill bit. It is plastic a round file would work. Install the switches in the back splash, and secure with three screws, plug in and you are back in business.
