How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4368163 / WD01X10393 Door Cable

At first it seems that the pulley can't be removed to make this repair. However,after removing the screw that holds the pulley in place, if you take a small screwdriver and tap the center of the pulley bracket with a hammer it comes out from behind and will go back in with hand pressure after repair. 

Ordered 2 new cables (didn't want to do this again real soon). After watching the video, it was a relatively easy repair. The most difficult issue I had was pulling my dishwasher out as there was no flooring under the dishwasher so I couldn't pull it straight out as the surfaces weren't level.

I followed the guidance given by the repair video. It was very easy to complete the repair. The only problem was that the video did not suggest checking the cable pulley for wear and I had to place a second order because a new cable kept slipping out of the groove and the hook broke. The second order was shipped immediately but FedEx lost track of the package so instead of receiving the parts in 2 days like my first order, it took FedEx 7 days. The Pros were supportive during that fiasco.

Ordered new door cables 

Replaced both door cables and installed door hinge pulley 

The cable ended up being the problem, broken because the nylon pulley wheel was worn out. I replaced the wheel and cable, it took all of 10 minutes. 

Removed DW attachment screws from granite supporting plywood. Pulled DW out using thin plastic sliders made from milk jug. Removed 5/16 screw holding cable roller. (frame should have small notch to use socket or driver....had to use small open-end to remove screw) removed roller which allowed removal of twisted cable. Inserted new cable, lubricated roller mount & replaced roller. Attached cable end to spring by lifting side insulation blanket for visibility. Gripped plastic coupler with pliers and attached to hook on door.
