Athelstan H San Diego , CA April 26, 2018 Appliance: Model GE GTS18JCPBRWW Freezer cold; refrigerator warm coils filled with ice sheet First I replaced the defrost timer because I read this was a likely culprit. I didn't have a multimeter to test. After a week the problem re-surfaced. I researched further and found that if the Defrost Limiter Thermostat was exploded that it was probably bad. By exploded I mean that the seals on either end were uneven and burst. I replaced the thermostat and it looks like the problem is solved! Elliot N Brooklyn , NY February 25, 2026 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator HTS17GBSERWW The refrigerator had stopped auto defrosting and was icing up After manually defrosting the freezer I installed both a new defrosting element and a new defrosting thermostat. The only difficulty is that the video on your channel did not mention the metal guard that fits over the heating element. The guard fell out when I removed the element and not knowing its purpose or position I installed it under the heating element. The next day I found on another appliance youtube channel (fix.com) an explanation of where and how to affix the guard if it happens to fall out. So the day after watching that video I reinstalled the heating element with the guard above it. Read More...
