I did some research and found some videos on how to fix the issue which led me to appliance pros website. I took the door off the frig just like the video showed, it was very easy to do. I could then see the real nature of the problem and the parts needed to fix it. The parts were $30 vs $1000 for a new frig so I thought I had nothing to lose. Ordered the hinge with the cam, 2 days later it came in. I repeated the steps to remove the door, replace the lower hinge and the cam. It was easy to tell they were the correct parts and the originals were shot. I cleaned the inside of the door while it was down and a total of 20 minutes later, the frig was back in service. The door closed by itself without me having to push or kick it closed. My wife was pleased that we got the problem fixed without buying a new refrigerator. It's been several days since the repair, we still are in the habit to check to see if it closes properly and it does every time.
I had the 5/16 socket handy, but an adjustable wrench would have done the job. The door was not heavy and I was able to do the whole job by myself. I have been smiling not only for the money saved but the satisfaction of conquering the beast.
My only doubt was whether to order just the cam or the hinge with the cam. I choose the hinge with the cam and this was the proper choice for my needs. Taking the door off first before ordering was the confirmation to remove the doubt.
