How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6891551 / WR17X22070 Mwf Bypass

For years we had purchased expensive water filters for our GE refrigerator. I replaced the last one in December and a couple of weeks ago we didn't have water & then no ice. I bought the filter bypass plug just to see if we had a defective filter. I removed the filter & inserted the plug. After purging the air from the line, we had water. Everything is back to normal and we won't be buying filters again. 

Bypass plug. Ordered one day, delivered the next and 30 seconds later had water and ice maker started to make ice. 

Installed bypass cap and external filter. Many complaints about GE filter effecting water flow. This website had the part to me within 2 days of ordering and that was awesome! 

Removed water filter from refrigerator and installed filter by pass cap, the part I ordered. It took less than a minute and we now have water and ice. 

I was able to replace the unit using only a small socket and nut driver. I did have to use a butter knife to loosen the electrical connection, but the whole switchover took less than five minutes. It did take a few hours before the new unit began producing ice, but it's working well now. 

I looked online and found several videos that show how to fix the problem. I looked up my model refrigerator online and found a parts schematic. I called several appliance parts stores. Each store had some but not all of the parts. I ordered all the parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. The parts I ordered shipped the same day and I received them a few days later. The parts were exact replacements and the repair was not difficult. 

Replaced the filter head assembly and filter plug. 

Replaced Mwf Manifold. Works just fine now. Many, many thanks to AppliancePartsPros! I was able to quickly and easily locate and order the part I needed at a fair price. I followed the How-To video provided by AppliancePartsPros, which described the process perfectly. Foam insulation around the water lines needed a bit of adjustment to get through the refrigeration body, but not a big deal. Overall, a very easy repair thanks to AppliancePartsPros. 

Totally idiot proof; just had to screw it in!
